Amir Arfaei, M.D., Pulmonologist, Community Memorial Hospital, will present a lecture on “Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation”.  He will 1) Evaluate evidence-based recommendations for the use of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in acute respiratory failure, 2) Implement current practice guidelines by ATS/ERS, 3) Specify the indications, contradictions, initiation, and weaning of NIV, and 4) Determine when and where NIV should start.

The conference will take place on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at noon, in Nichols Auditorium. Lunch will be provided and Category 1 & 1-A CME will be available.  If you would like to view this lecture online, please contact the CME Coordinator, Christeva Vazquez at or 805-948-5638 to be added to the webinar list.

Controlled substance (CS) serial number script enforcement postponement

It looks like they came out with further guidance on the CS form serial number requirement. The California Board of Pharmacy and DOJ are not enforcing this law until July 2019. This gives us a few months to transition, where Pharmacies will be able to fill without fear of enforcement from breaking the law.

“Prescribers are encouraged to procure compliant security forms at their earliest opportunity. In the interim, however, none of the signatory agencies want to see patients denied access to necessary medications during this transition period. With that in mind, the Enforcement Committee of the Pharmacy Board has recommended to the Pharmacy Board and the Executive Officer that, prior to July 1, 2019, enforcement staff not make an enforcement priority of actions against and/or investigations of pharmacists (or their employing pharmacies) who, in the exercise of his or her best professional judgment, determine that it is in the best interest of patient or public health or safety to fill a controlled substance prescription written on a security form that would have been compliant prior to January 1, 2019”.

How to contact our CMHS Radiologists

Extension 5647 rings in each of the radiologists’ offices at CMH and also in the radiologist office at OVCH. If not answered within 5 rings, the call rolls over to the front desk in Imaging (CMH extension 8160).

The front desk is not currently staffed after 5 PM or on weekends. The front desk phone rolls to the PBX operator.

As we advance with Mobile Heartbeat, we will work to implement practices which continue to improve our communication capabilities.
