Another Successful Nightingale Ball in Ojai

The 15th Annual Nightingale Ball

On Saturday, December 10th, the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa was the site of the 15th annual Nightingale Ball which featured a night of wonderful food, good company, and a great cause.

Presented by the Ojai Valley Community Hospital Guild, along with this year’s event co-chairs Barbara Parsons and Roger Beerworth, funds were raised for hospital improvements, including the new 75-bed Continuing Care Center (skilled nursing facility) due to open in 2018.

Honorary host for the evening was Joan Kemper, and the hardworking committee members this year were: Ren Adam, Don Anderson, Phil Caruthers, Deborah Edwards, James Halverson M.D., Linda Law, Barbara Pops, Peggy Russell, Teresa Smith, Aryna Swope, Jane Weirick and Nita Whaley.

Thank you to everyone who attended the evening festivities, our sponsors, and our gracious volunteers.

Mandatory IRA deductions: Make a gift to support local healthcare and you won’t be taxed on your payout.

Here’s a great way to take your mandatory IRA deduction without being taxed—and benefit CMHS.  The IRA Charitable Rollover provision allows individuals who have reached age 70 ½ to donate up to $100,000 to a charitable organization, such as CMHS, directly from their retirement account (IRA), without treating the distribution as taxable income.  This law no longer has an expiration date, so you are free to make annual gifts to CMHS from your IRA this year and well into the future.

  • You must be age 70½ or older at the time of the gift.
  • You transfer up to $100,000 directly from your IRA. This opportunity applies only to IRAs and not other types of retirement plans.
  • You transfer the funds outright to one or more qualified charities. The legislation does not permit direct transfers to charitable trusts, donor advised funds, charitable gift annuities or supporting organizations

Goodbye Old Friend

Heels & Wheels motorcycle ride sponsored by the Ventura HOG Chapter Ladies of Harley.

As we get ready to open the new Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, a new entrance driveway is taking shape off of Main Street. To create this driveway the Midtown building, which has housed several businesses over the years, was taken down.

Acknowledging the pains of progress, we pay tribute to this "old friend" in the following video.
