May Is Stroke Awareness Month

CMHS Encourages the Community to Learn Stroke Risk Factors and Symptoms

Did you know stroke is the leading cause of disability in the US? About every 40 seconds, someone suffers from a stroke. That’s about as much time as it takes to read this message. The sooner you call 911, the better the chance of recovery. Remember, act FAST if you think you see someone having a stroke. You need to know what to look for, so you can act FAST. F-A-S-T.

We invite you to take a simple, free risk assessment to evaluate your own risk factors.

Ojai Valley Community Hospital Foundation Presents Buckaroos Boots & Bling – Saturday May 18, 2013

“A little Madness in the Spring is wholesome even for the King”

When poet Emily Dickinson penned this couplet in 1875, it’s highly unlikely – unless she was psychic – that she was thinking of the Ojai Hospital Guild’s upcoming springtime event, “Buckaroos, Boots & Bling.” All right, it’s more than unlikely; it’s improbable. Okay, impossible.

But psychic or not, Dickinson hit the nail on the head. “Buckaroos, Boots & Bling,” scheduled Saturday, May 18 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, will certainly stir a little madness in all who attend. There’ll be music, dancing, dinner, silliness (lots of silliness) and a silent auction with premiums

ranging from Palm Springs getaways to bridge lessons, art tours and free dinners at premiere restaurants.

It will also raise a tidy sum for Ojai Valley Community Hospital, with all proceeds going to upgrade and improve patient care over the next 12 months.

“Buckaroos, Boots & Bling,” not surprisingly, will feature a cowboy (and cowgirl) theme, with guests encouraged to show up in boots, ten-gallon hats, flouncy dresses and other

paraphernalia (minus the artillery) of the Old West. The menu is best described as Blazing Saddles Lite.

“These springtime events over the last decade have been immensely popular, thanks to the hard work and imagination of our dedicated volunteers,” said Guild president Dottie Combs. “We put the premium on having a good time, while working hard to make it a financial success for our hospital.”

Tickets, which include dinner, are $75. Thomas Aquinas Church Community Center is located at 185 St. Thomas Dr., Ojai, CA.

And the nice part: It’s wholesome, even for the King.
