    Dr. Khozema Campwala specializes in Urgent Care. He received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies and completed an anatomical and clinical pathology residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, as well as a family medicine residency at Wheeling Hospital in West Virginia. Dr. Campwala is a member of the American Medical Association and is certified by the American Board of Family Practice.

    Dr. Michelle Daucett is the Family Medicine Program Director. She received her BS degree from the University of Oregon and her DO degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific.She completed a rotating internship at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, OKlahoma before going active duty in the US Air Force. After completing Emergency Medicine and Flight Medicine training, she served at the USAF Hospital at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City and completed board certification by ACOFP.

    She returned home to Ventura County in 1995 and spent the next 20 years practicing family and emergency medicine, serving as the Medical Director for the Santa Paula Hospital Emergency Department from 2006-2015 before joining the CMHS GME team in the inaugural year.

    Ronda L. Doonan, PsyD practices integrated care in the Midtown Medical Group community health clinic and is a member of the Graduate Medical Education faculty at Community Memorial Health Systems in Ventura, California. Her responsibilities include direct patient care in the Internal and Family medicine clinics, behavioral health education of residents, leading Balint groups for family medicine residents and research in the areas of behavioral health and physician wellness. Dr. Doonan is also Adjunct Assistant Professor of Social Medicine and Healthcare Leadership at Western University of Health Sciences where she is involved in medical student education and physician wellness research. Dr. Doonan is one of the founding faculty of the innovative Family Support Services clinical training program at Ronald McDonald Houses of Los Angeles, Pasadena, Stanford and Inland Empire. She continues to supervise and provide didactics for mental health trainees. Dr. Doonan maintains a private practice in Ventura, California specializing in Couple, Individual Adult, and Family therapy and is a volunteer with The Soldiers Project. Publications, presentations and areas of academic and clinical interest include the impact of chronic illness and/or physical disability on couple and family relationships, enhancing physician/patient relationships, and physician wellness

    Kristin S. Peña, M.D. completed her medical training at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and her residency at the Franklin Square Hospital Family Medicine program in Baltimore, MD. Following graduation she moved to Ventura, California and worked both as a co-owner of a private family practice and as a locum tenens physician. In addition to her faculty position, Kristin works part-time at the non-profit Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinic in Isla Vista, which services many underserved, uninsured and homeless patients. Her faculty duties include precepting residents at the Midtown Medical Clinic as well as coordinating the Family Medicine Didactics program.

    Special interests include Women's Health, Preventive care, probiotics and teaching. She is the coordinator for the Ventura Women’s Physician Network. Outside of medicine, she enjoys yoga, tennis, traveling, crafting and spending time with her husband and teenage daughter.

    Dr. Simon Akl was raised in Los Angeles, California where he attended a full immersion French American school through High School. He was accepted to California State University Fullerton as a President’s Scholar graduating with a B.S. in Health Sciences and a double minor in Kinesiology and French. He then went on to attend medical school at Western University of Health Sciences where he quickly discovered his passion for teaching resulting in his selection as a pre-doctoral teaching fellow in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. Simon developed an interest for family medicine with his focus on continuity care while emphasizing the importance of lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise. He feels blessed to continue his training and participate in an exciting growth process at CMHS. Outside of his medical profession, Simon comes from a Lebanese family which influenced him to learn French and Arabic. During his free time he enjoys traveling, playing basketball and volleyball, outdoor activities at the beach, hiking and camping. He looks forward to serving the Ventura community!

    Dr. Kristen Anderson grew up in Moorpark, California. She has always and will always call Ventura County her home. After graduating with a B.S in Psychology and Biology from California Lutheran University she began working as a behavior therapist with autistic kiddos. While she loved her job, she knew her true passion was in medicine. She pursued a Master’s Degree in Medical Science and ultimately her medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences. Kristen is excited to now be a part of the CMH family where she will further her medical education in family medicine. She chose family medicine because it allows her to encompass all parts of medicine she is passionate about: underserved community medicine, medical management education, pediatric medicine, and adult medicine. When she is not in the hospital or studying she is found spending her time outdoors (hiking, swimming, cycling, camping, or paddle boarding) with her husband and her family.

    Dr. Ryan Baugher is a native of Florida and has spent most his life in California. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Global Studies, and Touro University Nevada with a M.S. in Medical Health Sciences and Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine. Ryan’s academic and medical interests are in primary care, rural medicine and global health. Outside of medicine Ryan enjoys spending time with family and is a fan of most any outdoor activity. Ryan is also a travel enthusiast, having spent time exploring 35 countries around the world as well as living in Australia for a year. He is looking forward to his new adventure in Ventura accompanied by his lovely wife and newborn son. Ryan is excited at the opportunity to continue his medical training at CMHS and to serve the communities of the Central Coast.

    Dr. Michael A. Cerasaro (Mac) was born in northern Pennsylvania and was raised near Binghamton, New York. He graduated in 2015 from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. Prior to that he obtained his undergraduate degree in Biology from The College at Brockport, a State University of New York. Michael conducted cellular research in his undergraduate work, which helped further his curiosity and interest in the sciences, however it was this experience that allowed him to realize his passion was working with people. During medical school he had the opportunity to complete his core rotations at CMH and is eager to return to a growing program with plenty of opportunities to teach and learn. He grew up playing ice hockey and took to lacrosse and soccer later on. He enjoys reading (especially the work of psychologist Daniel Kahneman) and pretty much any activity with his two German shepherds, Frank and Lucy. Michael is considering to further his training with a Palliative Care fellowship, however has not ruled out any other medical subspecialties.

    Dr. Sachil Khandelwal was born in England and moved to Irvine, CA at the age of 15. He completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California with a B.S. in Business Administration. He did his clinical research at UCI Medical Center before moving to Fort Lauderdale, FL to attend Nova Southeastern University for medical school. After four years, Sachil is excited to finally be moving back home to Southern California and looking forward to starting as an Internal Medicine resident at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, CA. Outside of the hospital, Sachil enjoys playing soccer and follows Arsenal of the English Premier League religiously. His other interests including playing tennis and watching movies (his favorites being Robocop, The Terminator series, and all of the Batman films no matter how bad some of them are). Although Sachil has not decided whether he wants to pursue a fellowship or work as a hospitalist in the future, he remains dedicated to helping his patients while learning as much as possible from them in return.

    Dr. Alexandra Morath was raised in the mid-west and relocated to Santa Barbara, California to attend Brooks Institute of Photography where she earned her BA in Scientific/Industrial Photography. From there, she spent several years using her photography as a gateway to the world before returning to school to pursue her lifelong goal of becoming a physician. She attended medical school at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA and was fortunate to spend a year of rotations at Community Memorial Hospital. During her time at CMH, she realized her aspiration to become an Internist and is thrilled to have been accepted to their residency program. She looks forward to furthering her growth as a physician within this community, and to serving her patients with respect and humility. She is delighted to share this journey with her husband and son, who are eager to make Ventura their home. She is also indebted to her family, especially her parents, who have been steadfast in their support throughout her life.

    Dr. Hannah Robinson grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia and attended college at Virginia Tech, where she earned a B.S. in psychology and a B.A. in interdisciplinary studies with emphases in gender studies and religious studies. Looking for a change of scenery, she moved to the Bay Area to attend Touro University – California where she earned a D.O. as well as an M.P.H. with an emphasis in global health. During this time, she fell in love with West Coast weather and culture. She also enjoys hot yoga, backpacking, cycling, and cooking. She feels very fortunate to be living in Ventura and to be part of Community Memorial Health System, and she looks forward to learning and working with her patients, colleagues, and the faculty and staff at CMH.

    Dr. Brian Utz grew up in a military family, living in California, Hawaii, and Florida. After high school, he worked as a phlebotomist and lab assistant in a clinical laboratory for several years before beginning his undergraduate studies at the University of South Florida, where he majored in Biomedical Science. He graduated from medical school at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton Florida. Brian is dedicated to serving in international missions as well as caring for the underserved at home. He has been on several mission trips to date and plans for many more. He has also volunteered in free clinics at home. In his free time, Brian likes to cook, travel, and spend time outdoors.

    Dr. Kearnan Welch is a Ventura native. He began his medical education at UC Davis, where he earned a Bachelor’s in Neurobiology, Physiology & Behavior followed by a Master’s in Nutritional Biology. While in graduate school, he oversaw a rigorous advanced systemic physiology lab and conducted a study of the phonetic processing of American Sign Language by Deaf signers. His interest in nutrition-related disease led to further research including a study of the family dynamics of diabetic children and the status of nutrition education in the public school system. In June, 2015, he received his medical degree from Touro University-COM in Vallejo. Prior to graduation, he also completed a medical internship on tropical diseases in Tanzania, Africa. His experience as a hearing-impaired person has given him insight into medicine from the patient’s point of view. He is currently interested in pursuing a fellowship in Gastroenterology.

The goal of the CMHS Residency Program is to train outstanding, well-rounded physicians
that work in a collaborative environment and give back to the community.
